LEAD MECHANICAL ENGINEER
This position is responsible for production and assisting management with planning and coordinating all activities and projects aspects pertaining to the Mechanical Engineering Discipline. This position will act as a liaison both internally and externally for Mechanical Engineering services by interacting with Principals, Project Managers, Associates, Clientele, Consultants, Contractors, Vendors and Agency Officials. This position requires a qualified candidate to apply their Professional Engineer’s signature and stamp with responsible charge in accordance with local established standard of care and projects’ Local AHJ amendments or requirements.
Responsibilities:
•Participate in project design kick-off meetings and progress reviews with Mechanical personnel and Project Managers, and lead routine mechanical team meetings.
•Discuss mechanical discipline project scope / objectives, Owner Project Requirements and budgets with clientele, Mechanical staff, and FAE Leadership.
•Review all Mechanical Engineering deliverables for: technical content and quality; drawing clarity and completeness; and adherence to code and Owner’s Project Requirements, in a timely manner with a spirit of teamwork makes the dream work.
•Provide oversight and assistance with writing and editing of project documents, specifications and equipment selection for mechanical building systems and components.
•Personally and professionally conduct or delegate job-site observations to ensure projects are adhering to specifications and design intent.
•Establish design standards and procedures to manage the workflow of project tasks delegated to staff as well as the project teams, and assist management to validate firm conformance to established design standards and processes.
•Conduct problems-solving and design troubleshooting initiatives to support the Client and construction team in a reasonable manner during project close-out phase or post-construction evaluation and report back to FAE Leadership team regarding status, proposed next steps, and lessons learned.
•Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance in relation to zoning laws, fire regulations, building codes and other ordinances; convey applicable changes of local, state, and federal regulations and ordinances to discipline appropriate personnel and FAE Leadership.
•Act as a mentor for mechanical discipline personnel by providing continuous assistance and support to FAE associates with professional training and career development opportunities.
•Maintain Professional Engineering License(s), and affiliation and/or membership with local, state, or national industry organization(s) such as ASHRAE.
•Perform duties in a professional and ethical manner to support FAE’s vision and core values.
Qualifications:
•Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with discipline personnel, office staff, and clientele
•Demonstrated ability to promote and establish teamwork and individual leadership within the discipline
•Ability to successfully and continuously lead a team of engineering professionals to meet and exceed project, discipline, and business unit goals set by Project Managers and FAE Leadership
•Extensive knowledge of building codes and construction systems specific to Florida climate and jurisdictions
•Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and mechanical design software
•Effective time management and organizational skills; ability to become involved in several projects and remain up-to-date on the various developmental stages
•Well developed analytical and problem-solving skills
•AutoCAD experience is required; Revit experience is preferred.
Education and License Requirements:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree or other advanced education is preferred
•Professional Registration as a Mechanical Engineer in the State of Florida; NCEES profile is a plus
•Extensive familiarity and working knowledge of Florida Building and Energy Codes, ASHRAE codes, NFPA codes
•LEED AP preferred and a plus
•Building Systems Commissioning CxA is a plus
•15 years minimum experience encompassing engineering in the area of building systems design with a minimum of 7-10 years active Registered Professional Engineering (PE) License.
